A Thoroughbred in Looks and Manner
The All Water Seventeen is designed to integrate efficiency, versatility and beauty into a single package.
Experienced paddlers will appreciate her central chines which will cut clean arcs through the water when the hull is leaned. And novices will find security in her flattish middle-sections, a feature that provides increased initial stability and a playful edge.
The Seventeen’s asymmetric shape also eliminates the need for a skeg or rudder, and contributes to her elegant lines. Paddlers will find that she tracks straight and is capable of covering significant distances. A thoroughbred in both looks and manner, she’s a boat that will please the eye and the paddle; we have no doubt that she’ll quickly become a classic.
Good to Know
Builders who choose these kayak plans should keep in mind that the drawings come with all the dimensions, full-size templates, and lines necessary to build a cedar strip kayak. The plans however, do not come with building directions. First timers would be well advised to choose a good book about strip-kayak building, or spend some time online viewing some of the many video tutorials.
If you were to ask us what book we’d advise you to read before starting, we’d say pick-up Ted Moore’s classic: Kayak Craft; Fine Woodstrip Kayak Construction.
Also, given her turn at the deck and chines, the curves might present a bit of a challenge for first time builder. With a bit a patience however, and willingness to make a mistake or two along the way, even those who have never built a kayak before will find that building a beautiful kayak is well within their ability.
