A PACK CANOE in the modern STYLE
for paddlers who carry their boats into still and quiet waters
EASY on the EYES and BACK

With Classic or Hard Chined Tumblehome
13 Feet x 28 Inches

The Ashes Solo Pack is a modern version of a historical pack boat, once used to navigate the tangled swamps and waterways of the North American eastern states and provinces. She’s light, easy to carry and will track well. The tumblehome will cause some pause for thought on the building jig, but otherwise, she will go together with minimal fuss. Novice builders choosing a chined version would be well advised to apply equal parts patience and good humour.

Things to Know

DESIGN & PADDLING VERSATILITY

The Ashes Solo Pack is designed with both hard-chine and soft tumble home as an option. The plans come with templates for both. The hard-chine increases secondary stability at the cost of somewhat more difficult construction. The soft tumblehome retains Ashes’ elegant recurve. Regardless of which option a builder chooses, nothing changes below the maximum load line.

Small canoes like the Ashes Solo Pack are frequently propelled using a double paddle. At Ashes we’re traditionalists and favour a single blade. Paddlers otherwise inclined will benefit from a somewhat speedier arrival at their destination at the cost of a slightly damp lap. The plans come with appropriate measurements for seat height and thwart placements for either option.
